Due to overwhelming response, we've extended our roadshows to 2 more kindergartens.
Last Saturday, our team of 12 visited Sri Montessori in Damansara Jaya for their carnival where we performed out sketch in front of 40 kids and parents!
We had a Q&A session after the sketch and the kids who answered correctly were given a copy of 'Stranger Danger'.

Search for Asmawi intensifies

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 2,000 posters of 11-year-old Muhammad Asmawi Jalaludin have been distributed to police stations in the Klang Valley.

City police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman said that besides distributing posters, police had also started house-to-house searches for Asmawi.

He said that at the same time, they would also search for five-year-old Sharlinie Mohd Nashar.

A check with SK La Salle Brickfields revealed that Asmawi, a Year Five pupil there, had a bad attendance record, said DCP Sabtu.

New OCPD: Supt Azri (right) officially handing over his duties to ACP Wan Abdul Bari at the Brickfields police headquarters yesterday. Looking on is DCP Sabtu.

It was learnt that Asmawi was absent 79 out of 190 schooling days last year.

DCP Sabtu, who witnessed the handing-over of duties by Brickfields (Acting) OCPD Supt Azri Abdul Rahman to Asst Comm Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid yesterday, urged the public not to provide false information on Asmawi.

He said that so far, only one SMS had been sent to the boy’s mother and it was from a prankster.

Asmawi went missing on March 9. He was last seen at a playground near his house in Pantai Permai, Pantai Dalam here.

Boy, 11, missing since Sunday

KUALA LUMPUR: An 11-year-boy, Muhammad Asmawi Jalaludin (pic) went missing from Kampung Kerinchi on Sunday and his mother and six siblings are pining for his return.

Asmawi was last seen playing with his friends at one of the blocks of Kerinchi flats located about 200m from his house at about 5pm.

Brickfields acting OCPD Supt Azri Abdul Rahman said yesterday that the boy would usually play video games at the nearby premises with his friends.

He said Asmawi’s friends claimed that the Petaling Jaya SRK La Salle pupil had gone home at 6.30pm on Sunday.

“The boy was last seen in Mid Valley by his friends. We are scrutinising the CCTV clips in the shopping complex to find out if he was there,” Supt Azri said.

He said Asmawi’s mother, Rozita Abu Hassan, 50, had received an SMS demanding ransom. Police have identified the sender of the SMS but have yet to track him down.

Rozita, a single mother of seven, said: “Usually Asmawi goes cycling and plays football in the evening and would be back by 5pm.”

She said when her youngest son failed to come home, she searched the area until 9pm.

“I felt very worried for his safety so I lodged a report at the Kerinchi police station,” said the stall operator.

“It has now been four days. I just wish that my son is back home with us, safe and sound.”

Roadshow Part 5

Methodist Kindergarten, PJ

The final and largest roadshow was held at Methodist Kindergarten on 6^th March, with approximately 100 children aged between 3-6 years old. All 31 members of the A:S.A.P 4 Children team were present.

The roadshow kicked off at 11am with a short sketch on the danger of following strangers. The kids were extremely responsive during the Q&A session held after that, waving their arms enthusiastically to be picked. Questions revolved around the emergency number (999), as well as what to do in certain situations when confronted by a stranger. About 10 goodie bags were handed out during this session.

As there were too many children present to play games, we decided to have a sing-a-long. Both team members and kindergarteners spiritedly sang and danced to songs such as “London Bridge is Falling Down”, “Hokey Pokey”, and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. It was hard to see who was having more fun – the kids or us!

At 11.30am, we took some group photos with the kids and their teachers, and said our goodbyes. All in all, the roadshows were a huge success and the children understood the message we were trying to pass on to them, thus fulfilling the objectives of A:S.A.P 4 Children.

Roadshow Part 4

Tadika Montessori Cambridge English Learning Centre, PJ

Our team members who went to Cambridge English Learning Centre, on the 6^th March consist of 11 members: Andrew Ong, Tan Sin Ying, Tamilvannan, Shidy, Jean Ong, Daryl Lee, Sheau Mun, Christy Lim, Leoni Hang, Jesika Utami, and Jennifer Lie. There were 50 students age ranging from 3 -6 years old.

At 9.00 AM we started by greeting the kids by Jennifer, as the MC. Then we did our role play, continue with Q&A session. There are 5 prizes given for the kids who were able to answer our question. The response of the children during this Q&A session was excellent because most of the kids are willing to participate and answer the questions.

After that the committee members together with the kids sang 2 songs, continue with first game, Chinese whisper, which the kids are supposed to whisper to the friend behind them and passed the secret safety message.

The next game we played is called “the mother/father and the stranger”. We improvise this game from the fox and the hen. The objective of the game is to teach the children to hold on to their mother or father while the stranger tries to get them. The children must also run or avoid the stranger when he tries to catch them.

The last in the itinerary was the giving out of gifts to all of the 50 students and sing goodbye song. We also took pictures together with the kids. We wrapped up at 9.45 AM.

Roadshow Part 3

Tadika Sri Medan Bistari, Taman Buana Perdana, PJ

Our team members who went to Tadika Sri Medan Bistari, Taman Buana Perdana on the 6^th March consist of 8 members: Hui Min, Marie, Yoke Chin, Azzie, Kar Yan, Stephanie, Weng See and Joey. There were 36 students from the kindergarten.

We arrived at the kindergarten at about half past nine in the morning. Ice breaking session took place. Shortly after, as usual, we did our sketch on child safety, followed by the Q&As. Emphasis was given on the emergency number, 999 and the dangers of tagging along with strangers. The children understood well and they were very participative. The games and activities we had were:

London Bridge
Poison Box
A little warm up exercises
Singing songs together

Towards the ending of our visit, prizes were given to the respective winners of each game and those who answered for the Q&As. Group pictures were then taken and off we headed for another venue!

It's hard to believe that 190 days has passed since the death of Nurin Jazlin Jazimin. The story that shook the nation, Nurin was abducted from a night market near her home and was found stuffed in a duffel bag by the stairs in a Petaling Jaya shoplot. Nurin's murder was the cruelest activity of the highest order and still sends shivers down the spine of Malaysians.

What if Nurin was your younger sister? What if she was the little girl next door?

A:S.A.P 4 Children aims to educate young children on safety issues to avoid abduction through an interactive and educational way. Our book "Stranger Danger" will be distributed to kindergarteners aged 4 and above to raise awareness on the issue and therefore decrease the number of abduction cases.

A:S.A.P 4 Children stands for “Abduction: Social Alert Project 4 Children”.

The team behind this project comprises 30 fourth semester students of the Journalism, Advertising, and Public Relations (PR) majors from Taylor’s College School of Communication (SOC).

We plan to execute two major projects in the course of this campaign:
1. The Kindergarten Adoption Programme, whereby we will collaborate with five kindergartens in the Petaling Jaya district. During our roadshows to these kindergartens, we hope to communicate the importance of basic personal safety (such as being aware of strangers and when to dial 911) through a series of fun interactive activities.

2. The Book Project, the brainchild of A:S.A.P 4 Children. A storybook for pre-school children with a coloring book concept.

We hope to raise sufficient funds to publish and distribute the books free of charge to the five kindergartens under our adoption programme.

OBJECTIVES OF A:S.A.P 4 Children:

1. To provide a platform for young children to learn about basic personal safety.
2. To raise the awareness of parents and families on the importance of child safety.
3. To raise funds for the successful execution of the Book Project.

Well hello there! We are Diploma in Communications Semester 4 students of Taylor's College Petaling Jaya. We are currently organizing a social awareness project about child abduction, we named it A:S.A.P.4 Children , Abduction: Social Alert Project For Children. Since there were so many unfortunate cases about child abduction, we figure that it is very important for the society to educate the children about their own safety. We are here to help them, and of cause, educate them to prevent all the unwanted incidents to happen. So, help us to educate the children.
